How to decide
- Look at heights. Many of Universal’s headline rides have height minimums. If your youngest is small, Disney gives them more to do.
- Count days honestly. Parks are big and Florida is hot. Plan fewer parks per day, not more.
- Ask what they’re dreaming about. A princess dinner? Disney. Hogwarts? Universal. That usually ends the debate.
Doing both in one trip
- Stay in two hotels (one on each property) or one central hotel with a car.
- Put Universal days together so multi-day tickets and on-site perks work in your favor.
- Add a pool or rest day between the two — it saves the second half of the trip.
- Pair with a cruise from Port Canaveral (about an hour away) for a land-and-sea vacation.
When to go
Lower crowds are usually in January–February (outside holiday weekends), late April–May, and late August–September. Summer is hot with afternoon storms; holidays and spring break are the busiest and most expensive.
Tickets & line-skipping
Both resorts sell date-based tickets and optional paid line-skipping. Prices and rules change often; we compare the current options for your dates and tell you when paying for skip-the-line is worth it (usually on the busiest days, not always).
FAQ
Is Epic Universe worth adding?
For Harry Potter, Nintendo and thrill fans, yes. It needs its own day.
Can we do Disney in 2 days?
You can, but you’ll choose between parks. Three days is the minimum we recommend for a first visit.
On-site hotel or off-site?
On-site saves transport time and has early-entry perks; off-site can mean more space for the price. We compare both.
